Loughry College
This contract had a combined contract value of £141K with the Mechanical Value totalling £112K and was procured under the GC Works 1 form of contract and based on the MTC measured rates. Due to the Mechanical Element being the greater value of the three disciplines we, as the Mechanical Contractors, assumed the role of Principal Contractor.
The installation involved the removal of an existing oil fired heating boiler and installing a Bio-Mass heating plant in this area complete with an external fuel store. After we decommissioned the existing number 3 oil fired boiler we had to temporarily modifying the controls strategy accordingly. The flow and return headers were then modified to allow for the positioning of the new buffer and separation vessels for the new Bio-Mass boiler. At this stage we had a very tight programme to meet as once the boiler arrived on site we had 5 day to build the boiler, fuel store, pipe work, insulation, electrical installation and control modification to allow the boiler to operate for an open day at the college on the proposed date.
The fuel store was erected directly outside the boiler house and the ogre feeding the pellets through the wall into the boiler hopper as per Property Divisions Design. The BMS controls were then modified to recognise the new Bio-Mass boiler as the lead boiler at all times with the back up of the oil fired boilers when required in the depths of winter. Following the successful commissioning of the boiler installation everything was fully operational for the open day as targeted.
We are pleased to confirm that the job was completed as per the budget constraints.
We were pleased to be involved in the first Bio Mass boiler installation within Properties Division's Estate.
